Director Teases Details On Reys Parents!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams sparked a frenzy online Friday when public comments he made seemed to shoot down a major theory about his heroine Rey’s parentage. However, the filmmaker later backpedalled from his bombshell statement.

During a Q&A at the Tribeca Film Festival, an attendee asked Abrams flat-out who Rey’s parents are.

“Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII,” Abrams replied. “So I can’t possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too.”

This would seem to shoot down the prevailing fan theory that her father is Luke Skywalker, who she met at the end of The Force Awakens. Or does it?

Entertainment Weekly caught up with Abrams after the Q&A and he clarified his remarks: “What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world.”

So is Rey related to Luke, Han or Leia or not? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, check out why our own Terri Schwartz hopes Rey isn’t related to anyone in the Star Wars saga.
